Monday Night Classes: Social Skills

Getting Along with Roommates!

Participants will learn how to get along with roommates and others in their lives. They will learn how to set boundaries and negotiate. Role Playing and other strategies will be used to teach this class.

Mondays: October 3, 10, 17, 24           4:00-5:30 pm

Tuesday Night Classes: Lifelong Learning

Creative Cooking 101 (Chicken Dinners)

Members will meet at the STEP Program to cook and enjoy meals together. Club members will integrate  recipe reading,  measuring, cooking, and social skills into each class. This group is limited to 8 members.

Tuesdays: October 4, 11, 18, 25          4:30-6:30 pm

Instructor: Chef Pat Mac     Location: STEP Program                                  $100 (includes grocery expenses)  

Wednesday Night Classes: Lifelong Learning

Personal Health for Women

The ladies in this class will explore and learn about personal health, hygiene, relationships, safety and basic social sexual education. Questions will be answered in a safe confidential environment.

Wednesdays: Sept.7, 14, 21, 28      4:30-6:30 pm

Instructor: Karen Gillette   Location: STEP Program

$100 for four week course (min. 5)

Personal Health for Men

The men in this class will explore and learn about personal health, hygiene, relationships, safety and basic social sexual education. Questions will be answered in a safe confidential environment. (A male teacher will assist with this class)

Wednesdays: Sept.7, 14, 21, 28      4:30-6:30 pm

 Reading for Pleasure: Book Club

Group members will read for pleasure, increase reading skills, and implement personal adaptations to enjoy reading for fun! Group members discuss characters, plot, prediction, and use other comprehension skills.-Limit: 10 members (min. 4)

Thursday Night Classes: Wellness

Creative Cooking 101: Cooking Basics

Members will meet at The STEP Program to cook and enjoy meals together.  Class members will integrate recipe reading,  measuring, cooking, and social skills into each class.

  • Class One: Dry and Liquid Measurement, Knife Skills (Cutting Chopping, Dicing, Slicing, etc).
  • Class Two: Stove Top Basics (Boiling, Frying, Sauteing, Fire/Burn Safety)Oven Basics (Bake, Broil, Cleaning and Safety)
  • Class Three: Mixing Basics (Stirring, Mixing, Whipping, Whisking, Cracking Eggs) and Refrigerator safety (Freezing and Refrigerating items safely)Expiration Dates on food items and cooked foods.
  • Class Four: Pastas and Sauces (Cooking a variety of pastas with different sauces).   This group is limited to 10 members.

Thursdays: September 8, 15, 22, 29   4:30-6:30 pm

 Meditation and Strategies for Stress Relief

Group members will learn how to meditate and use relaxation techniques for stress relief and well being. Participants should dress comfortably and bring a towel or blanket, pillow and water.

Thursdays: September 8, 15, 22, 29  4:30-6:00 pm

$100 for four week course Limit 10 members (min. 6)

 Coed (Men and Women) Gatherings:

Each class will include community activities where friendships will be created and interpersonal skills developed. What a great way to make new friends and have age appropriate fun! Karen Gillette and Pat Mac will supervise.

 BBQ in the Park

Participants will meet at Municipal Park for a BBQ and games with our wonderful community of friends.  Food will be provided as participants learn BBQ techniques and enjoy hanging out with their new and old friends.

Tuesday Sept. 20   5:00-7:00 pm   (Location: Municipal Park)

$20/ Food included Limit 10 members (min. 6)

 Pizza Night

Participants will meet at Smokey Mountain Pizza on State Street. We will enjoy friendship, pizza, salad and soda with old and new friends.

Thursday Oct. 27   5:00-7:00 pm   (Location: Smokey Mountain Pizza)

$20/ Food included Limit 10 members (min. 6)
